VTC Black Top SR20DET into S13. As the S13 chassis ages, more and more owners will find their red top SR20DET engines expiring. Most would find it more cost effective to get a second hand motor from a wrecker than to rebuild the existing motor. SR20DET Red top is 205 HP at 6,000 RPM, torque 274 m at 4,000 RPM. This engine was used for Nissan Bluebird and Nissan 180SX (Silvia S13). SR20DET Red top is a more powerful version, produced since 1990 to 1994. Compression ratio is abated to 8.3.
dose the SR20DET suffer from any re-acuring problems, like my astra has a small oil leak from the the rocker cover gasket it runs like it should but aparently the only way to get it sorted is to get the top of the head skimmed and the rocker cover skimmed, apparently this is a common problem with some of the astra engeins.
The SR20DET is a black top with a decent fat turbo (i think it is stock) and the odometer is from a Nissan Silvia I suppose. It reads 120,000 km. I have tried searching on Google but I always get mixed messages. One guy says I have seen 300,000 km on them no problems and another is proud of their 2 year run before a complete rebuild.
blacktop is a never engine. blacktop will fit in the 240sx as well as any redtop. if you will be upgrading parts on it i think they are equally potent. blacktops usually have less miles on them. the best match for your US 240sx is whatever you wanna put in it, lol. you can put a S14 or S15 motor if you like. all sr20det's will fit inthe usdm ...
Hi all, I've recently swapped a blacktop VVT SR from an s14, freshly rebuilt in my s13, the car runs fine and pulls like a train, but i'm experiencing overheating only when cruising on highways or driving a little faster than usual (Water temps at 100/110C° and oil at almost 120°).
S13 SR20DET Blacktop Idling Problems I have a Nistune daughterboard along with a consult port hooked up in order to diagnose and troubleshoot (not tuning yet) and that is what has given these values on this post.
