Still own my '63 SS Impala 4 speed 409 car. Just a mild 340 HP version, fun car to drive and row the gears in. Own a '65 Impala SS with a 327 and powerglide and a '70 Impala sport coupe with a L48 300 350 (my personal favorite car to drive out of them all).
The transmission is the 4-speed manual trans with floor mounted shifter (factory option). Engine starts and runs with great ease. Rear end is the posi-traction rear with the 3:08 gear ratio. This Impala was purchased new in West ia. It came from the factory with tinted windshield and the SS package.

It was equipped with a factory high performance 348 cu.in. solid lifters and high lift cam, 350 Horse Power engine, with 3×2 carbs. Also 4-speed transmission and 4.11 rear gears with Posi Traction from the factory.

It was also located in the trunk and the Dealer installed it for the customer. The first 4-Speed available "in" the car was in '59. I also agree that the last 4-Speed in a B-Body car was in '70.
