I have tried about 20 different ways to dredge, using siphoning, then trash pumps, and different "heads" to the suction hose to try to be able to dredge for more than 3 minutes without clogs and I can report failure. So was looking for info on pressure needed for suction dredge. i cant find no numbers says this much psi for this size dredge. Ive heard of trash pumps being used on dredges and dont see no use buying a high dollar motor for a dredge if this one can put out the water needed. If use a 3 inch intake might have enough for something.
Depends on what you are running.They work great on a highbanker but not good on a dredge over 2inch.A dredge pump such as Keene or Proline deliver a lot of water under high pressure hence the high price.I run a trash pump on my 2 inch dredge highbanker combo because it was affordable but any larger of a unit you need the power of a good dredge pump.

As long as your not going to use as a dredge, a cheap trash pump will work fine for water flow. Maybe some punch plate at the top of the sluice before the riffles. Ideas and experimentation are half the fun. Might keep you in the shop longer 8) Bill

A trash pump can work I'm sure but you still would need to create either some sort of holding pool to let the sediment fall out of the water or a filtration system. I'll look into some possible cheap setups for around $50-$100 or so tonight using materials you can use on other projects if it doesn't work out.
