Well, it finally happened last night, I stripped my drive gear on my G0704 while fly milling. Instead of replacing it with the same plastic gear, I opted to buy the belt drive conversion kit from Benchtop Precision.
I really like the G0704 but if you are heavy handed like me, it may not be the best choice - go for a belt drive mill to begin with. In my case, I probably should have bought the little HF or WT knee mill that is just a little more money - heavier machine with step pulley belt drive.

My system is more than most would need for a G0704, but it probably only cost half of what the Procut system goes for. Personally, I'd buy the stuff and build the control, then spend the money saved on a belt drive kit and BLDC spindle motor once the CNC conversion is working well.
I built my own belt drive for my G0704 - here is the thread on that project. It was not too difficult and so far is working nice. It can be built using nothing more than a mini-lathe and the mill itself. A rotary table helps but is not completely necessary. Cost was less that $100.

So I could see still doing a motor and possibly different belt drive conversion some day... but honestly this is pretty bad ass. On the G0704 you can add spacers between the head and column and base and column to push the column back a few inches. I haven't done this on my G0704 but some people do and get up to 12" of Y travel.
