Although the work breakdown structure (WBS) is one of project management's primary tools for effectively managing a project, many project managers develop their WBSs haphazardly--and frequently, without the involvement of their teams and without the support of their senior managers. This paper examines how project managers can develop a better WBS through facilitated team participation.
