The Advent 300 receiver had a very good FM stereo tuner, a well regarded headphone output, and an excellent phono stage preamplifier similar to the circuit used in the Apt Holman preamplifier. As you've discovered, the downside of the Advent 300 was in the quality of the parts.

Oh Ya, Had one in the day, about '76, '78 or so. Had a great sounding FM tuner. Used it to drive some Akai SW155s and later Klipsch Hereseys. This is a rare 1976 Advent Model 300 Receiver with the silver face plate. It was built in Cambridge, MA before assembly was moved to Mexico in 1979. The unit is in excellent working condition and good cosmetic condition. I bought it a couple of weeks ago from a reputable seller and it's a great little unit.

Advent also produced a silver face model of the 300 which is much harder to find than the black face model. Despite its shortcomings the Advent 300 is a nice little receiver. If you have a small room or garage and want a top notch phono stage then this might be the unit for you.
