The Crystal Mill site is located in an historic, picturesque, remote, wooded area well worth the difficulty in getting there. It was a hydro-electric power plant that was used for mining from the 1890s until 1917 and is located between Marble Colorado and Crystal City (a ghost town).

We took Devils Punch Bowl for the first time, the trail is usually blocked by snow but it was a dry year so we were excited to try it. In the summer months, the road is clogged with atv's and jeeps moving in both directions, which makes hiking to the mill a dusty adventure. Beginning your route from Marble is recommended. Approaching from Crested Butte takes you over Schofield Pass and the Devil's Punchbowl, one of the most dangerous, and deadliest, shelf roads in Colorado.
