Mineral Belts in India. Overall, India is a hotspot of the following mineral reserves: Metallic and non-metallic minerals: iron, chromite, copper, mica, and manganese. Energy reserves: coal, petroleum, thorium, and uranium. 1. Chota Nagpur Belt (Northeastern Plateau region)
Iron Ore. Iron ores are rocks and minerals from which metallic iron can be extracted.; India has large iron ore reserves. It occurs in various geological formations but major economic deposits are found in volcano-sedimentary Banded Iron Formation (BIF) from the Precambrian age.; Magnetite is the finest iron ore with a very high content of iron up to 72 percent.
It contains large quantities of coal, iron ore, manganese, mica, bauxite, copper, kyanite, chromite, beryl, apatite and many more minerals. In fact you ask for any major mineral of India and you will find it in this belt. Thus it is a mineral region par excellence. The Chota Nagpur plateau is known as the mineral heart land of India.
Classification of minerals is done based on whether the minerals contain metals or non-metals. Metallic minerals in India are somewhat scarce except those which contain ferrous metals. There exists two types of metallic minerals, namely ferrous metallic minerals and non-ferrous metallic minerals.
Ferrous minerals account for about three-fourths of the total value of the production of metallic minerals. Iron Ore . India is endowed with fairly abundant resources of iron ore. Magnetite is the finest iron ore with a very high content of iron, up to 70%. It has excellent magnetic qualities.
In India, the value of metallic minerals in 2018-19 was at INR 64,044 crores. Among these the principal metallic minerals, iron ore contributed more than 45000 crore rupees. This was equivalent to ...

The majority of the iron ores in India are also associated with hydroxyl-bearing minerals such as goethite and limonite. The goethite content varies from 10–50% in low-grade hematite iron ores. These mined ores contain higher amounts of impurities like silica, alumina, phosphorus, sulfur and alkalis.
Manganese ore in India. Manganese is a Ferro metal, occurring as silvery grey.It is very hard and brittle. It is always present in combination with other minerals like iron, laterite, etc. Being a ferrous metal, manganese is used in steel manufacturing and ferromanganese alloys. It has been estimated that for manufacturing of one tonne of steel, about 10 kg of manganese is required.
Which type of iron ore is abundant in India? 1. Haematite. 2. Magnetite. ~10,500 million tonnes. Major states. Odisha 33%. Jharkhand 26%.
The value of annual iron ore production exceeds the combined output of all other ferrous and ferroalloy minerals. Bulk of this production is used in manufacturing industry. Origin: Major iron-ore reserves in India occur in the peninsular plateau within crystalline schist rocks of Dharwar and Cuddapa systems.
