Grinding is a process to smoothen the surface of the granite, so they lose their grainy finish, as a result of the cutting process and achieve a smooth to touch finish. Grinding is done in a grinding machine with multiples heads attached to diamond abrasives of different densities to achieve an even surface finish.
Nevertheless, the process is relatively simple: locate or create (minimal) breaks in the stone, remove the stone using heavy machinery, secure the stone on a vehicle for transport, and move the material to storage. After granite has first been mined out of the earth, it will be in a very rough form. After the mining process is complete, the granite will be sent to a workshop to be transformed into slabs. A technician will use milling machines to cut and polish the granite. Once milling has been completed, the slab will be between 7 and 9 feet long.
The CNC machine first starts with a diamond polishing pad of 50, then 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500, ending at 3,000. The CNC shapes and polishes at the same time, leaving the edge shaped and polished. Similarly, if your granite is ever scratched or damaged, this process is used to repair it.
